BYU at Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. (Interstat) — A pivotal Big 12 women’s basketball matchup featuring two teams knotted in the standings will tip off Wednesday night when the BYU Cougars visit the Oklahoma State Cowgirls at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Both teams enter Jan. 28 with identical 16-5 overall records, adding significant weight to the conference clash. Each squad is looking to rebound from a loss in its last outing. BYU fell 91-77 to West Virginia on Saturday, while Oklahoma State dropped a 79-65 decision at Colorado on Sunday.

The game will feature a compelling duel between two of the league’s top performers. BYU is led by guard Delaney Gibb, who is averaging 21.1 points over her last seven games. She scored a team-high 28 points in the loss to West Virginia. For Oklahoma State, forward Achol Akot provides a versatile inside presence. She is coming off a 22-point performance against Colorado and has recorded two double-doubles in recent weeks.

The Cougars have shown a pattern of strong response, having not lost consecutive games since late December. Their offense, fueled by Gibb, will test a Cowgirls defense that has been stout at home, holding three of its last four opponents in Stillwater to 63 points or fewer.

Oklahoma State will rely on its home-court advantage, where it is 9-2 this season, including an 86-58 rout of Iowa State on Jan. 18. The Cowgirls’ balance will be key; in their Sunday loss, Haleigh Timmer joined Akot in double figures with 17 points.

Wednesday’s winner will gain a valuable conference victory and sole possession of fourth place in the competitive Big 12, providing crucial momentum for the final month of the regular season. The loser will face its first two-game skid in nearly a month.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST.
