Northwestern at Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. (Interstat) — The Nebraska women’s basketball team, riding high in the Big Ten standings, will look to avoid a letdown when it hosts struggling Northwestern on Wednesday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
The Cornhuskers (15-4) are coming off an 81-75 home victory over Illinois last Saturday, powered by 20 points from standout guard Britt Prince. Nebraska has won three of its last four conference games, with its only loss in that span a narrow 63-60 defeat at Wisconsin.
Prince has been a consistent force for Nebraska, averaging over 18 points per game in her last six outings. She is supported by a balanced attack that includes Jessica Petrie and Logan Nissley, who each added 15 points in the win over Illinois.
Northwestern (8-12) arrives in Lincoln seeking to halt a two-game skid, including a decisive 80-46 loss to UCLA on Sunday. The Wildcats have lost five of their last seven games and have struggled on the road, where they are 1-4 in true away games this season.
Guard Xamiya Walton is a key player for the Wildcats. She scored 19 points in a close loss at Illinois on Jan. 18 but was held to nine points in the blowout loss to UCLA. Center Grace Sullivan, who had a team-high 21 points against UCLA, provides an interior presence.
The matchup pits one of the conference’s top offenses against one of its most vulnerable defenses. Nebraska averages over 78 points per game, while Northwestern has allowed 80 or more points in three of its last five losses.
History heavily favors the home team. Nebraska has won the last eight meetings between the programs, with Northwestern’s last victory in the series coming in 2018.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CST Wednesday. Following this game, Nebraska will begin a tough two-game road trip at Ohio State on Sunday. Northwestern continues its challenging stretch at Indiana on Sunday.
