Boston University at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Interstat) — A surging Navy women’s basketball team will look to complete a season sweep and solidify its Patriot League standing when it hosts Boston University on Wednesday night at Alumni Hall.

The Midshipmen (12-6, 5-1 Patriot) have won five of their last six games, most recently a 60-44 defensive triumph over rival Army on Saturday. They sit near the top of the conference standings. The visiting Terriers (7-12, 3-3), meanwhile, are seeking consistency after snapping a three-game skid with a 58-54 win over Colgate last time out.

Navy dominated the first meeting this season, a 77-64 victory in Boston on Dec. 31. Sophomore guard Zanai Barnett-Gay powered that win with 18 points, five rebounds and five assists. She enters this rematch as one of the league’s most dynamic players, averaging 19.3 points, 5.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds over her last six contests. Her backcourt mate, Zoe Mesuch, is also coming off a 17-point performance against Army.

Boston University will counter with guard Rose Azmoudeh, who is coming off a season-high 14 points in 27 minutes against Colgate. Frontcourt players Anastasiia Semenova and Anete Adler, who each scored 16 points in that win, provide additional scoring punch. The Terriers’ success likely hinges on improving an offense that has been held under 65 points in eight of their 12 losses.

Defense has been Navy’s catalyst during its run, holding opponents to an average of 54.2 points in its five Patriot League wins. Boston University has struggled on the road, posting a 2-8 record away from home this season.

The matchup is a pivotal one in the Patriot League schedule. Navy aims to keep pace at the top, while Boston University hopes to climb above .500 in conference play and avenge its December defeat.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday.
