Nevada at San Jose State

Preview: Nevada Wolf Pack at San Jose State Spartans

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Interstat) — Two Mountain West women’s basketball teams seeking to halt slides will meet Wednesday when the Nevada Wolf Pack visits the San Jose State Spartans at the Event Center.

Nevada (7-11 overall) enters having lost two straight, including a 54-44 home defeat to Fresno State on Saturday. The Wolf Pack have shown resilience this season, with a three-game conference win streak earlier this month, but have struggled offensively in their recent losses.

San Jose State (2-17) is mired in a nine-game losing streak. The Spartans fell 75-60 at Colorado State on Saturday and have not won since Dec. 21. Defense has been a persistent issue, as opponents have scored 75 or more points in four of the last six games.

A key matchup will feature two of the conference’s recent top scorers. Nevada will look to guard Olivia Poulivaati, who is coming off a 10-point performance against Fresno State and has been a consistent contributor in league play. For the Spartans, guard Amira Brown is a focal point, averaging 22 points in 36 minutes in the loss to Colorado State and capable of high-volume scoring.

The Wolf Pack have found more success in conference play, going 3-3 in their last six Mountain West contests. The Spartans are 0-6 in the same span, with an average margin of defeat of 22.8 points.

Historically, Nevada has dominated the series, winning the last nine meetings. In their only matchup last season, the Wolf Pack defeated San Jose State 73-53 in Reno.

Following this game, Nevada will host UNLV on Saturday. San Jose State travels to face San Diego State on the same day.

Wednesday’s contest tips off at 7 p.m. PST.
