George Washington at Duquesne

Preview: George Washington at Duquesne Women’s Basketball

PITTSBURGH (Interstat) — Two Atlantic 10 women’s basketball teams seeking to halt slides will meet Wednesday when the George Washington Revolutionaries visit the Duquesne Dukes at A.J. Palumbo Center.

George Washington (9-9) has lost four consecutive games, most recently a 59-46 home defeat to George Mason on Sunday. Duquesne (7-9) has dropped five straight, falling 61-54 at VCU on Sunday.

The matchup features two of the conference’s top individual scorers in recent play. George Washington will lean on Sara Lewis, who is coming off a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds against George Mason. Over her last five games, Lewis is averaging 11.8 points and 7.2 rebounds.

Duquesne’s offense runs through Alexis Bordas, who exploded for 25 points in the loss to VCU. She has been a consistent high-volume scorer, averaging 20.6 points over her last five contests. Her season highlight was a 38-point, 5-rebound, 5-assist performance in an 84-69 win over Pittsburgh on Dec. 21.

The Revolutionaries’ recent skid follows a promising 7-2 start to non-conference play. Their defense, which held opponents under 60 points in six of their nine wins, has faltered in A-10 play, allowing an average of 70.5 points during their four-game losing streak.

The Dukes have struggled with offensive consistency outside of Bordas. The team failed to reach 40 points in a 46-38 home loss to Saint Bonaventure on Jan. 7 but showed potency in their win over Pittsburgh earlier in the season.

Historically, this series has been closely contested. Both teams will view this as a critical opportunity to gain momentum in the middle of the conference schedule.

Wednesday’s winner will gain a needed boost before the weekend. George Washington hosts Loyola Chicago on Saturday, while Duquesne travels to face Rhode Island on Sunday.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
