Saint Mary`s at San Diego
SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — The Saint Mary’s Gaels and San Diego Toreros, two West Coast Conference women’s basketball teams seeking momentum, will meet Sunday at Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Saint Mary’s (9-6) enters the contest looking to snap a two-game skid after narrow home losses to Portland (59-63) and Oregon State (57-63). The Gaels’ offense will lean on guard Abigail Shoff, who scored a team-high 14 points in the loss to the Beavers. Over her last five games, Shoff is averaging 9.0 points per contest.
San Diego (6-9) has also dropped its last two, falling at Santa Clara (46-68) and Pacific (68-72). The Toreros are powered by guard Kylie Ray, who is coming off a career performance. Ray poured in 29 points and dished four assists in 39 minutes in the loss to Pacific, showcasing her capacity to carry the scoring load. She averaged 18.2 points over a recent three-game stretch.
The matchup features contrasting trajectories in recent weeks. Saint Mary’s started December with three straight wins before its current slump, while San Diego has split its last six games, including a close win over Cal State Fullerton (56-55).
Historically, this conference opener represents a key opportunity for both squads. The Gaels will aim to leverage their stronger overall record on the road, while the Toreros hope home court and Ray’s hot hand can help them climb back to .500.
Tip-off is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026, in San Diego.
