San Diego at San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — The San Francisco Dons look to solidify their position in the West Coast Conference standings and complete a regular-season sweep when they host the San Diego Toreros in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game Thursday night at War Memorial Gymnasium.

The Dons (11-7 overall) enter with momentum after an 85-72 road victory over Washington State on Jan. 17, powered by a 21-point, 7-assist performance from standout guard Aina Cargol. San Francisco sits four games above .500 and previously defeated San Diego 59-55 on the road on Jan. 2.

In that first meeting, Cargol orchestrated the offense with 12 points and six assists. She has been a consistent force, averaging 16.4 points and 6.1 assists over her last seven games. Her backcourt leadership will be central against a San Diego team seeking to end a four-game skid.

The Toreros (7-13) are reeling from an 87-42 loss at Gonzaga on Jan. 17. Guard Hallie Rhodes, the team’s player to watch, scored 10 points in that defeat. Rhodes has shown scoring bursts this season, including a 16-point effort in a win over Pepperdine on Jan. 10, but consistency has been an issue. San Diego’s offense has struggled, failing to reach 60 points in four of its last five contests.

Beyond the standings, this matchup is a critical opportunity for both teams to build conference momentum ahead of the final stretch. San Francisco aims to protect its home court and stay in the upper tier of the WCC, while San Diego desperately needs a signature road win to reverse its season’s trajectory.

The Dons’ supporting cast, including Paula Tirado and Noelia Mourino Freiria who combined for 31 points against Washington State, will look to provide Cargol with ample support. San Diego will need more offensive production beyond Rhodes, potentially from Kylie Ray, who led the team with 13 points in the Gonzaga loss.

Tipoff is set for Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, in San Francisco.
