West Georgia at Central Arkansas
CONWAY, Ark. (Interstat) — A surging West Georgia looks to extend its winning streak when it visits Central Arkansas in an ASUN Conference women’s basketball matchup Wednesday night at the Farris Center.
The Wolves (12-5, 5-1 ASUN) have won five straight games, most recently an 88-76 victory over Stetson on Saturday. Destiny Jones led the way with an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double, continuing her strong play. Over the last seven games, Jones is averaging 11.6 points and 5.3 rebounds. She is complemented by Jasmine Jones, who scored 21 points against Stetson, and Asia Donald, who added 19 points and nine rebounds.
Central Arkansas (10-8, 3-3) is coming off a 79-72 road win at North Florida, powered by a season-high 25 points from guard Shae Littleford. The senior has been a consistent offensive force, scoring in double figures in six of her last seven outings, including a 17-point performance in a blowout win over Bellarmine on Jan. 8.
The Bears have shown resilience at home in conference play, posting decisive wins over Bellarmine and Stetson earlier this month. They will need to contain a balanced West Georgia attack that has averaged 78.2 points during its current streak.
Defensively, the Wolves have held four of their last five opponents under 65 points. Slowing down Littleford, who is averaging 16.4 points in ASUN play, will be a key focus.
This game is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams. They are scheduled to meet again in Carrollton, Georgia, on Feb. 21.
Wednesday’s contest tips off a critical stretch for both squads as they navigate the conference schedule. West Georgia aims to keep pace near the top of the ASUN standings, while Central Arkansas seeks to climb above .500 in league play.
