George Mason at Saint Bonaventure
Preview: George Mason Patriots at Saint Bonaventure Bonnies
KNAPP CREEK, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two Atlantic 10 women’s basketball teams riding divergent momentum will clash Wednesday when the George Mason Patriots visit the Saint Bonaventure Bonnies at the Reilly Center.
George Mason (12-6, 6-0 A-10) enters on a six-game winning streak, its latest a 66-59 victory at Saint Joseph’s on Sunday. The Patriots’ conference perfection has been fueled by balanced scoring and the steady play of guard Mary Amoateng. Over the last seven games, Amoateng is averaging 9.7 points and 2.7 assists, including a 12-point, 5-assist performance in the win over the Hawks.
Saint Bonaventure (12-7, 3-3) looks to rebound after a 66-53 loss at Fordham, which snapped a two-game win streak. The Bonnies will lean on forward Aaliyah Parker, who has been a consistent force. Parker posted 15 points and seven rebounds against Fordham and is averaging 13.2 points over her last six contests.
The matchup features two of the conference’s top defensive units. George Mason has held its last six opponents to an average of 54.2 points. Saint Bonaventure, despite its recent loss, has limited foes to 57 points or fewer in three of its last five games.
A key battle will be inside, where Parker’s versatility for the Bonnies meets a Patriots frontcourt that has controlled the boards during its streak. Kennedy Harris, who scored a game-high 22 points Sunday, provides additional scoring punch for the visiting Patriots.
Saint Bonaventure holds a slight home-court advantage this season at 7-3 in the Reilly Center. George Mason is 4-3 in true road games.
The Patriots’ perfect start in league play will be tested in Western New York against a Bonnies team seeking to re-establish its footing in the conference standings. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
