Navy at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. (Interstat) — A pivotal Patriot League rematch awaits Wednesday when the Navy women’s basketball team visits Holy Cross, with both squads carrying identical 2-1 conference records and seeking momentum in a tight league race.

The Midshipmen (10-6) arrive at the Hart Recreation Center looking to avenge a 66-55 home loss to the Crusaders just over two weeks ago, on Jan. 3. Since that defeat, Navy has found its rhythm, winning three straight games by an average margin of 28.7 points. Holy Cross (10-7), meanwhile, has split its last four, most recently defeating Lafayette 70-48 on Saturday.

The matchup features two of the conference’s top guards. Navy’s Zanai Barnett-Gay enters on a torrid stretch, averaging 20.8 points, 6.2 assists and 5.0 rebounds over her last five games. She scored 24 points and dished six assists in Navy’s 86-68 win over American last Wednesday. Her performance will be critical against a stout Holy Cross defense.

For the Crusaders, Kendall Eddy poses the primary threat. She torched Navy for 21 points in the January meeting and is coming off a 15-point performance against Lafayette. Her backcourt battle with Barnett-Gay will likely dictate the tempo.

Holy Cross has relied on a balanced attack, with Mary-Elizabeth Donnelly and Kaitlyn Flanagan providing consistent support. Navy counters with additional firepower from Zoe Mesuch and Julianna Almeida, who combined for 30 points in the win over American.

With both teams knotted in the league standings and the season series on the line, Wednesday’s contest carries significant weight for postseason positioning. Navy aims to extend its winning streak and prove its recent offensive explosion is sustainable, while Holy Cross looks to defend its home court and complete a regular-season sweep.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST.
