Detroit at Cleveland State
Preview: Detroit Titans at Cleveland State Vikings
CLEVELAND (Interstat) — A Horizon League women’s basketball matchup with contrasting trajectories unfolds Wednesday night when the surging Cleveland State Vikings host the struggling Detroit Titans at Wolstein Center.
Cleveland State (13-5 overall) enters with momentum, having won five of its last seven games, including an 87-75 victory over Wright State last Wednesday. The Vikings are led by guard Macey Fegan, who is coming off a 16-point, 6-assist performance in that win. Over her last seven games, Fegan has averaged 11.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists, providing steady all-around play.
Conversely, Detroit (4-12) seeks to halt a six-game skid. The Titans are coming off a 53-74 home loss to Green Bay on Saturday. Their last victory came on Dec. 21 at Delaware State. Despite the team’s struggles, forward Jasmine Edwards has been a consistent bright spot. She posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds against Green Bay, and over the last eight games, she has averaged 11.9 points and 8.9 rebounds.
The Vikings will be motivated by revenge. In the first meeting this season on Dec. 4 in Detroit, the Titans emerged with a 76-68 victory. That result snapped a three-game winning streak in the series for Cleveland State.
This rematch pits Cleveland State’s balanced attack and strong home-court advantage against a Detroit team reliant on Edwards’ interior production. The Vikings have gone 7-2 at home this season, while the Titans are 1-7 in true road games.
Following this contest, Cleveland State will host Robert Morris on Sunday. Detroit continues its road trip with a visit to Oakland on Sunday.
