UCLA at Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — A surging UCLA women’s basketball team, boasting one of the nation’s top records, faces a tough road test in the Big Ten against a Minnesota squad coming off a signature win when the teams meet Wednesday night at Williams Arena.

The Bruins (14-1, 3-0 Big Ten) have won seven straight since their only loss at then-Texas in November. They are led by dominant center Lauren Betts, who is averaging 19.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.6 blocks over her last five games. In UCLA’s most recent outing, an 80-46 rout of Southern California on Jan. 3, Betts scored 18 points with four assists and three blocks.

UCLA’s offense has been prolific, scoring 97, 82 and 80 points in its first three conference games. Guard Kiki Rice, who had 14 points and eight assists against USC, facilitates an attack that features four double-figure scorers.

The Golden Gophers (12-4, 3-2) are riding momentum after a dramatic 63-62 home victory over then-USC on Sunday. Guard Grace Grocholski, the team’s leading scorer, poured in 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds in that win, capping a stretch where she averaged 20.2 points over her last five contests.

Minnesota’s defense, which held USC to 34% shooting, will face its stiffest challenge yet against UCLA’s high-powered system. The Gophers have relied on balance, with Grocholski, Mara Braun and post Sophie Hart all capable of leading the scoring.

This matchup marks the first meeting between the programs as Big Ten conference foes. UCLA’s visit is part of a brutal stretch for Minnesota, which follows this game with a two-game Pacific Northwest road trip.

Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. EST Wednesday. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
