Towson at Hofstra
Towson Looks to Extend Win Streak Against Struggling Hofstra in Colonial Clash
STEWART MANOR, N.Y. (Interstat) — A surging Towson women’s basketball team visits a Hofstra squad seeking consistency as the Colonial Athletic Association schedule continues Friday at Mack Sports Complex.
The Towson Tigers (8-5) enter on a four-game winning streak, most recently edging Campbell 57-54 last Friday. Guard India Johnston has been pivotal during the run, averaging 18.3 points per game over that span. She scored 19 points in the win over Campbell and poured in a season-high 26 in an overtime victory at Maryland-Eastern Shore on Dec. 17.
The Hofstra Pride (3-10) snapped a five-game skid with a 54-46 road win at UNC Wilmington last Sunday. While offense has been a season-long struggle, the Pride have been bolstered by the interior presence of Sandra Magolico. The forward grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds in the win over UNCW, anchoring Hofstra’s defense.
Towson’s recent success has been built on close victories, with three of their last four wins coming by four points or fewer. Alongside Johnston, Thalia Shepard and Semaya Turner have provided steady minutes.
Hofstra’s challenge will be generating scoring against a Towson defense allowing just 61.2 points per game during its win streak. Beyond Magolico’s rebounding, guard Nevaeh Brown leads the Pride in scoring, including a 15-point performance in the team’s last outing.
The Tigers have dominated non-conference play but are beginning their CAA slate. Hofstra’s win over UNCW marked its first conference victory, offering a potential turning point after a difficult start that included lopsided losses to Kentucky and Maryland.
Friday’s contest is the first of two regular-season meetings between the programs, with the rematch scheduled for Jan. 23 in Towson, Maryland.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST.
