Undefeated TCU Faces Utah in Big 12 Women’s Basketball Showdown

SALT LAKE CITY (Interstat) — The nation’s only remaining undefeated team in NCAA Division I women’s basketball puts its perfect record on the line Saturday when Texas Christian visits the Utah Utes in a Big 12 conference matchup.

The Lady Frogs (14-0, 1-0 Big 12) have dominated their schedule, winning by an average margin of 32.6 points. They are coming off a 72-48 road win at BYU on Wednesday, where Clara Silva scored 15 points. Silva, a versatile forward, has been a consistent force, averaging 14.4 points over her last five games, including a 21-point performance against Jacksonville and a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double against Kansas State.

Utah (10-4, 0-1) looks to rebound from a narrow 69-68 home loss to Arizona State on New Year’s Eve. Guard Maty Wilke led the Utes with 17 points, five rebounds and four assists in that defeat. She has averaged 10.8 points over her last five contests. The Utes have shown resilience, with a 63-62 road win at Arizona on Dec. 22 highlighting their capability.

The game at the Jon M. Huntsman Center presents a stark contrast in momentum. TCU’s path has included just two single-digit victories, most notably a 69-59 win at then-North Carolina State in November. Utah’s four losses have come against ranked opponents or in tight finishes, including the one-point loss to the Sun Devils.

TCU’s offense, which has scored 90 or more points four times this season, will test a Utah defense allowing an average of 60.1 points. The Lady Frogs’ balanced attack is bolstered by guard Olivia Miles, who dished 10 assists against BYU.

This contest opens a critical January stretch for both teams. Utah faces a gauntlet, with its next five games all against conference foes. TCU aims to maintain its historic start as it navigates the heart of the Big 12 schedule.

Saturday’s tipoff is set for 2 p.m. MST at the Huntsman Center.
