Hampton at Campbell

LILLINGTON, N.C. (Interstat) — The Campbell women’s basketball team will look to solidify its winning season record when it hosts Hampton in a non-conference matchup Thursday at John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center.

The Fightin’ Camels (18-11) enter the contest with a significant edge in overall record over the visiting Pirates (10-18). Campbell also seeks a regular-season sweep after defeating Hampton 58-43 on Jan. 23.

Campbell is coming off a narrow 59-57 road victory at College of Charleston on Sunday, led by Olivia Tucker’s 14 points. Tucker has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 13.6 points over her last six games, including a 23-point performance at Elon on Feb. 20.

Hampton, however, arrives with momentum from its best offensive outing in weeks, a 77-71 win at Northeastern on Sunday. Guard Kiarra Mcelrath powered that victory with 20 points, continuing a strong stretch where she has scored 17 or more points in four of her last seven games. Her backcourt play will be critical for the Pirates’ chances.

Despite the recent win, Hampton has struggled offensively for much of the past month, failing to reach 60 points in six of its previous eight games prior to the Northeastern contest. Containing Tucker and improving scoring efficiency will be key challenges.

Campbell has found success at home this season, including conference wins over Hofstra and North Carolina A&T in February. The Fightin’ Camels’ defense, which held Hampton to 43 points in the January meeting, will aim to replicate that performance.

The game is a final non-conference tune-up for both teams before resuming their respective conference schedules on Saturday. Hampton will host William & Mary, while Campbell will face Stony Brook.
