Pacific at San Diego

SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — Two West Coast Conference women’s basketball teams seeking momentum at the end of difficult seasons will meet Saturday when the Pacific Tigers visit the San Diego Toreros at Jenny Craig Pavilion.

The Tigers (11-16 overall) enter the contest after a 70-85 home loss to Gonzaga on Feb. 21, a game in which standout guard Sydney Ward scored 30 points. Pacific’s scheduled Thursday game at San Diego was postponed, providing extra rest. The Toreros (9-20) are looking to snap a three-game skid, most recently a 61-74 defeat at Loyola Marymount on Feb. 21.

This matchup features two of the conference’s top offensive talents. Pacific’s Ward has been a consistent force, averaging 15.8 points over her last six games, including a 27-point performance in a win over Santa Clara and the 30-point outing against Gonzaga. Her scoring versatility will be central to the Tigers’ attack.

San Diego will counter with guard Kylie Ray, who has carried a heavy offensive load. Ray has scored in double figures in 12 consecutive games, averaging 19.0 points over her last five contests. She logged 40 minutes and scored 25 points in a narrow loss to Gonzaga earlier this month and will be the focal point of the Toreros’ offense.

The teams last met on Dec. 30, 2025, in Stockton, where Pacific secured a 72-68 victory. Saturday’s rematch in San Diego offers the Toreros a chance for home-court revenge in the regular-season finale for both programs.

Despite their sub-.500 records, both teams have shown flashes. Pacific has conference wins over San Francisco and Saint Mary’s this month, while San Diego posted a decisive 71-54 victory over Seattle on Feb. 7. The game will likely hinge on which supporting cast can best aid their star guard. For Pacific, Winner Bartholomew and Stella Szabo provided key contributions in the last outing. For San Diego, Olivia Owens and Helen Holley will need to supplement Ray’s production.

Tip-off is set for Saturday afternoon in what will be the final tune-up before the WCC tournament.
