Kansas State Wildcats Dominate UCF Knights in Big 12 Matchup

OVIEDO, Fla. (Interstat) — The Kansas State Wildcats delivered a dominant wire-to-wire performance on the road Wednesday night, overwhelming the UCF Knights 93-67 in a Big 12 Conference women’s basketball game at CFE Arena.

Fueled by a blistering first quarter and a balanced offensive attack, the Wildcats improved to 15-13 overall and 9-8 in conference play. UCF fell to 10-16 and 3-14 in the Big 12.

The most important part of the game was its explosive start, which effectively decided the contest within the first ten minutes. Kansas State came out with relentless offensive efficiency, scoring the game’s first seven points and never looking back. The Wildcats shot a scorching 58.7 percent from the field in the opening period, connecting on 11 of 19 attempts, while their defense held UCF to just 5-of-15 shooting. This combination resulted in a commanding 30-14 lead after the first quarter, a deficit from which the Knights never recovered. The early surge set a decisive tone, allowing Kansas State to control the pace and rhythm for the remainder of the night.

Kansas State’s offensive execution was clinical throughout. The Wildcats shot 58.7 percent from the field on 37-of-63 shooting and were equally potent from beyond the arc, hitting 11 of 20 three-point attempts for a 55 percent clip. They assisted on 10 of their 37 made baskets and committed only nine turnovers, which UCF converted into just 10 points. Conversely, the Wildcats scored 20 points off 14 UCF turnovers.

The Wildcats shared the scoring load, with five players reaching double figures. Tess Heal, a guard from Melbourne, Australia, led the way with 19 points in 30 minutes. Forward Nastja Claessens of Waregem, Belgium, added 16 points, while guard Gina Garcia from Barcelona, Spain, orchestrated the offense with a team-high seven assists to go with 10 points. Off the bench, guard Jordan Speiser provided a significant spark with 15 points in just 13 minutes, including three three-pointers. Point guard Taryn Sides nearly recorded a double-double, finishing with nine points and nine assists.

UCF was led by guard Kayanna Cox, who scored a game-high 22 points and added three blocks. Center Khyala Ngodu contributed nine points and two blocks, and guard Kristol Ayson chipped in 10 points. The Knights struggled to find consistent offense, shooting 45.8 percent from the field and just 33.3 percent from three-point range. They were also outscored 48-36 in the paint.

After the decisive first quarter, Kansas State maintained a double-digit lead for the final 35 minutes of the game. The Wildcats extended their advantage to 48-28 at halftime. UCF showed a brief spark in the third quarter, outscoring Kansas State 28-29 in the period behind 11 points from Cox, but never cut the deficit below 17 points. The Wildcats quickly reasserted control in the fourth quarter, holding the Knights to 11 points on 4-of-13 shooting to close out the victory.

The win gives Kansas State momentum heading into a crucial home matchup against in-state rival Kansas on Saturday. UCF looks to regroup on the road at Cincinnati, also on Saturday.
