Preview: LSU Tigers at Auburn Tigers

AUBURN, Ala. (Interstat) — The LSU women’s basketball team looks to rebound from a rare setback when it visits Auburn in a Southeastern Conference matchup Sunday at Auburn Arena.

LSU (20-3, 9-1 SEC) saw its nine-game winning streak snapped in a 77-64 road loss at Texas on Thursday. Before that, the Tigers had been dominant, winning their previous nine conference games by an average of 30.2 points.

Auburn (13-11, 3-7) seeks to halt a five-game skid, most recently a 61-53 loss at Florida. The home Tigers have struggled against ranked SEC foes, including a 30-point loss to South Carolina on Jan. 29.

LSU is led by guard Mikaylah Williams, who scored 20 points in the loss to Texas. Over her last seven games, Williams is averaging 14.0 points and 4.1 assists per contest. She is supported by a deep roster featuring Flau’Jae Johnson and MiLaysia Fulwiley, who combined for 20 points and nine assists against Texas.

For Auburn, guard Ja’Mia Harris has been a bright spot, averaging 11.6 points over her last seven games. She poured in a team-high 18 points in the loss to Florida. Auburn will need a significant defensive effort; the team has allowed 71.6 points per game during its losing streak.

The matchup pits two of the nation’s top rebounding teams. LSU ranks second nationally in rebound margin at plus-15.6, while Auburn sits at plus-8.5.

Historically, LSU has controlled the series, winning 12 of the last 13 meetings. Auburn’s last win came at home in 2022.

Following this game, LSU hosts South Carolina on Feb. 14 in a monumental SEC showdown. Auburn travels to face Texas A&M on Feb. 15.

Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. EST Sunday.
