New Mexico at Boise State

BOISE, Idaho (Interstat) — A pivotal Mountain West women’s basketball clash is set for Saturday when the No. 18-5 Boise State Broncos host the 16-7 New Mexico Lobos at Taco Bell Arena.

The matchup features two of the conference’s hottest teams. Boise State enters on a seven-game winning streak, last falling on Jan. 3. New Mexico has won four straight, including a 58-51 road victory at Wyoming on Wednesday, after a three-game skid in mid-January.

The Broncos, led by dynamic guard Libby Hutton, have been dominant during their run. Hutton is averaging 13.0 points per game over the streak and is coming off a 16-point, 6-rebound performance in a 70-61 win at Nevada. Her versatility was on full display in a Jan. 24 win at Grand Canyon, where she nearly posted a triple-double with 10 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists.

New Mexico counters with guard Nayli Padilla, who is coming off a team-high 13 points in the win over Wyoming. Padilla has been a key contributor during the Lobos’ resurgence, scoring in double figures in two of the last four games.

This game carries added weight as a rematch of a Dec. 17 meeting in Albuquerque, which New Mexico won 70-63. That result snapped a three-game Boise State winning streak in the series. The Broncos will seek to defend their home court and avenge that loss while solidifying their position atop the conference standings.

Boise State’s success has been built on a balanced attack and stout defense, holding opponents to an average of 56.7 points during their win streak. New Mexico’s defense has also been formidable lately, holding its last four opponents to 57 points or fewer.

With both teams jockeying for postseason positioning, Saturday’s contest promises high stakes and intense competition in one of the Mountain West’s premier rivalries. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. MST at Taco Bell Arena.
