UNC Greensboro at Samford

Preview: UNC Greensboro Spartans at Samford Bulldogs

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Interstat) — The UNC Greensboro women’s basketball team looks to solidify its position in the Southern Conference standings when it visits the Samford Bulldogs on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

The Spartans (13-10 overall) enter the Pete Hanna Center matchup with a winning record but have dropped four of their last six games. They are coming off a 67-58 road loss to Mercer on Thursday, despite 15 points from guard Jeni Levine. UNC Greensboro will aim to replicate its performance from last month, when it defeated Samford 73-64 at home on Jan. 8.

Levine has been a consistent offensive force for the Spartans, averaging 13.6 points over her last seven games. She scored 20 points in a loss to East Tennessee State on Jan. 24 and 19 in a win over Western Carolina on Feb. 1.

Samford (9-16) seeks to build momentum from a dominant 73-50 home victory over Western Carolina on Thursday. Forward Martha Bishop led that effort with 12 points and nine rebounds, showcasing her potential as a key contributor. Bishop’s performance was a bright spot in a challenging season for the Bulldogs, who have struggled to find consistency within conference play.

The Bulldogs’ offense will need to improve upon its recent showings against league foes, having been held to 61 points or fewer in three of its last four Southern Conference games prior to the win over Western Carolina.

Defensively, UNC Greensboro will focus on containing Samford’s Briana Rivera, who erupted for 21 points in the Bulldogs’ last outing. The Spartans have proven capable of strong defensive efforts, holding opponents under 60 points in three of their last seven games.

This contest represents a critical opportunity for both teams as the conference schedule enters its final stretch. A win would provide UNC Greensboro valuable separation in the standings, while Samford aims to play spoiler and string together consecutive victories for the first time since early January.

Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday afternoon in Birmingham.
