Smith’s Double-Double Leads Maine Past Bryant
VEAZIE, Maine (Interstat) — Adrianna Smith scored 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds Saturday to lead the Maine women’s basketball team to a 64-56 victory over Bryant at Cross Insurance Center.
The Black Bears (13-11) overcame a slow start and a 23-point first quarter from the Bulldogs (16-8) by capitalizing on free throws and turnovers. Maine shot 24 for 31 from the foul line and scored 15 points off 15 Bryant turnovers. Smith, a junior from Reston, Virginia, was central to the effort, adding two blocks.
Bryant’s Mia Mancini scored 15 points and dished six assists. The Bulldogs led 23-15 after one quarter but managed only eight points in the second as Maine built a 31-28 halftime lead it would not relinquish.
