Radford at Longwood

Preview: Radford at Longwood Women’s Basketball

FARMVILLE, Va. (Interstat) — A pivotal Big South Conference women’s basketball matchup features two 15-win teams as the Radford Highlanders visit the Longwood Lancers on Wednesday night at Willet Hall.

Both teams enter with identical 6-3 records in conference play, adding stakes to the league standings. The game is a quick rematch from Jan. 21, when Radford (15-9) defended its home court with a 78-63 victory over Longwood (15-6). In that game, the Highlanders’ defense held the Lancers to 36.2% shooting.

Radford arrives on a three-game winning streak, most recently a 61-57 home win over Winthrop on Saturday. Guard Cate Carlson has been a consistent force, averaging 13.1 points per game in conference play. She posted 18 points and eight rebounds in the win over Winthrop. Forward Georgia Simonsen also contributed 18 points and seven rebounds in that contest.

Longwood seeks to avenge its earlier loss and rebound from a two-game skid in mid-January. The Lancers have since righted the ship with two consecutive wins, including a 76-70 road victory at Gardner-Webb last Wednesday. Guard Jasmine Peaks led that effort with 13 points and three assists. In the first meeting against Radford, Peaks was held to nine points.

Longwood boasts one of the league’s top offenses, averaging 77.2 points per game, while Radford has leaned on a defense allowing just 57.8 points per contest in Big South play. The Lancers’ Amor Harris, who scored 16 points against Gardner-Webb, will be another key contributor.

The outcome will impact the tight conference race as both teams navigate the second half of the league schedule. Radford looks to complete a regular-season sweep, while Longwood aims to protect its home floor and improve its postseason positioning.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
