Georgia State at Louisiana-Monroe

MONROE, La. (Interstat) — Two Sun Belt Conference women’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when Georgia State visits Louisiana-Monroe at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

Both the Panthers (9-14) and Warhawks (9-12) enter with identical overall records but are coming off contrasting recent results. Georgia State has lost three straight, including a 68-59 home defeat to Texas State on Saturday. Louisiana-Monroe snapped a three-game skid with a 78-70 road victory at Appalachian State last Friday.

The matchup features two of the league’s top guards. Georgia State will lean on Crystal Henderson, who is averaging 18.4 points per game over her last seven contests. She scored 21 points in the loss to Texas State and erupted for 27 points in a win over Appalachian State on Jan. 17.

Louisiana-Monroe counters with dynamic point guard Nakiyah Mays-Prince, who is coming off an 18-point, 6-assist performance in the win over Appalachian State. She dished out a season-high 10 assists in a blowout win over Louisiana-Lafayette on Jan. 17 and has scored in double figures in seven of her last eight games.

The Panthers have struggled defensively during their losing streak, allowing an average of 77.7 points per game. Containing Mays-Prince and a Warhawks offense that scored 102 points in a game earlier this month will be a primary challenge.

For ULM, improving home performance is key. The Warhawks are just 1-3 in their last four games at Fant-Ewing Coliseum, including narrow losses to James Madison and Marshall last week.

Wednesday’s game is the only scheduled meeting between the teams this regular season. Following this contest, Georgia State begins a two-game road swing at Marshall and Appalachian State, while Louisiana-Monroe hits the road for games at Southern Miss and Troy.
