Toledo at Akron
Preview: Toledo Looks to Continue Momentum at Struggling Akron
AKRON, Ohio (Interstat) — The Toledo women’s basketball team aims to build on its recent winning form when it visits a struggling Akron squad in a Mid-American Conference matchup Wednesday night at James A. Rhodes Arena.
The Rockets (11-8, 7-3 MAC) have won five of their last six games, including a 59-49 victory over Bowling Green on Saturday. Toledo’s strength has been a balanced attack and stout defense, holding opponents to an average of 57.2 points during that six-game stretch.
A key player for Toledo is Faith Fedd-Robinson, who is coming off a 15-rebound performance against Bowling Green. Over her last seven games, she has averaged 11.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists, showcasing versatile production. She recorded 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists in a win at Ohio on Jan. 24.
The Zips (4-17, 1-9) snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 76-72 home win over Buffalo on Saturday. Guard Shaena Brew led the way with 20 points, highlighting her role as Akron’s primary offensive threat. Brew has averaged 14.3 points over her last four contests, including a 17-point effort at Bowling Green.
Despite their record, the Zips have shown sporadic offensive capability, scoring 76 points or more in two of their last four games. However, defense remains a significant challenge; Akron allows a conference-worst 76.2 points per game in MAC play.
Toledo won the first meeting this season, 79-46, at home on Dec. 31. The Rockets dominated the paint and forced 18 Akron turnovers in that contest.
For Toledo, maintaining its defensive intensity will be crucial against Brew and an Akron team playing with renewed confidence after its recent win. The Rockets, who sit in the upper tier of the MAC standings, cannot afford a slip-up against the conference’s last-place team.
Akron will need another high-scoring outing from Brew and improved defensive resistance to challenge the surging Rockets. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
