Arkansas State at Georgia State

Preview: Arkansas State Red Wolves at Georgia State Panthers

ATLANTA (Interstat) — A surging Arkansas State team visits a struggling Georgia State squad in a Sun Belt Conference women’s basketball matchup Thursday afternoon at GSU Sports Arena.

The Red Wolves (18-4, 8-1 Sun Belt) enter on a seven-game winning streak and sit atop the conference standings. They are coming off a 74-67 victory over James Madison on Sunday, led by a dominant 28-point, 8-assist performance from guard Crislyn Rose. Rose, the team’s engine, is averaging 17.1 points and 5.1 assists in conference play and has scored in double figures in eight of her last nine outings.

Arkansas State’s offense has been potent, averaging 82.3 points during its current win streak. Support for Rose comes consistently from Zyion Shannon (15 points vs. James Madison) and a deep rotation that has seen eight different players lead or co-lead the team in scoring this season.

The Panthers (9-12, 3-5) look to halt a two-game skid after a 96-69 road loss to Troy last Saturday. Guard Morgan Robinson-Nwagwu, who scored 12 points in that contest, has been a key contributor, averaging 10.3 points over her last six games. Crystal Henderson (17 points vs. Troy) and Nari Powers provide additional scoring options for a Georgia State team that has shown resilience, with two of its three conference wins coming in overtime.

Georgia State will need a strong defensive effort to contain the high-powered Red Wolves. The Panthers are 6-4 at home this season but have lost three of their last four at GSU Sports Arena.

Thursday’s contest is the only scheduled meeting between the programs this regular season. Arkansas State continues its road trip at Georgia Southern on Saturday. Georgia State remains home to host Texas State that same day.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST.
