Georgia Tech at Syracuse
Preview: Georgia Tech Visits No. -- Syracuse in ACC Women’s Basketball Clash
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Interstat) — The surging Syracuse Orange host the struggling Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in an Atlantic Coast Conference women’s basketball matchup Thursday night at the Carrier Dome.
Syracuse (16-4 overall) enters as one of the conference’s hottest teams, having won six of its last seven games. The Orange are coming off a narrow 77-71 overtime road loss to North Carolina this past Sunday. Standout forward Izoje Uche was dominant in defeat, scoring 27 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Uche has been a consistent force, averaging a double-double over her last several contests and providing elite rim protection.
Georgia Tech (9-12) snapped a two-game skid with an 80-69 victory at Florida State on Sunday. The Yellow Jackets are led by forward Brianna Turnage, who is coming off an 18-rebound performance against the Seminoles. Turnage has been a rebounding machine lately, pulling down 18 boards in two of her last five games and recording a triple-double (13 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists) in a Jan. 1 overtime win over Notre Dame.
The matchup pits Syracuse’s high-powered offense against a Georgia Tech team that has struggled to score consistently. The Orange have topped 80 points four times this season, including a 90-87 triple-overtime thriller against California on Jan. 15. The Yellow Jackets, meanwhile, have been held under 60 points in eight of their 12 losses.
Syracuse will look to control the interior with Uche and Journey Thompson, who had 10 rebounds against UNC. Georgia Tech will rely on Turnage and Talayah Walker, who scored 24 points in the win over Florida State, to keep pace.
This is the only scheduled meeting between the teams this regular season. Syracuse’s next game is Sunday at Miami. Georgia Tech returns home to host Boston College on Sunday.
