Huskies Put Perfect Record on Line at Georgetown

WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The top-ranked and undefeated Connecticut Huskies women’s basketball team brings its dominant run to the nation’s capital Thursday, facing the Georgetown Hoyas in a Big East Conference matchup at Capital One Arena.

UConn (19-0, 8-0 Big East) has been a model of overwhelming consistency, winning each of its games this season by double digits. Its average margin of victory in conference play is a staggering 43.6 points. The Huskies are coming off an 85-47 demolition of Notre Dame on Monday, their 12th game this season holding an opponent under 55 points.

The focal point for the Huskies is sophomore forward Sarah Strong, who is playing at an elite level. Over her last seven games, Strong is averaging 19.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.3 blocks per contest while shooting efficiently in limited minutes. In the win over Notre Dame, she posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Georgetown (11-7, 4-3) has shown resilience, most recently securing a 63-54 road win at Marquette on Saturday. The Hoyas are 8-2 at home this season. Guard Khia Miller leads the team in scoring and is coming off a 21-point performance against Marquette. She scored 20 in Georgetown’s narrow 76-74 home win over Creighton on Dec. 28, a blueprint the Hoyas will need to replicate for an upset.

History heavily favors the visitors. UConn has won 36 consecutive meetings against Georgetown, with the Hoyas’ last victory coming in 1993. The Huskies won both matchups last season by an average of 52.5 points.

For Georgetown, the challenge is monumental: find a way to slow UConn’s relentless, balanced attack. For the Huskies, the mission remains the same as it has all season – maintain their focus and flawless record against a conference opponent on the road.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Thursday. UConn’s next game is at Seton Hall on Sunday. Georgetown travels to face Xavier on Sunday.
