Washington State at Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to halt slides in West Coast Conference play will meet Thursday when the Pacific Tigers host the Washington State Cougars in a women’s basketball matchup at the A.C. Spanos Center.

Washington State (4-17, 3-5 WCC) enters on a two-game skid, most recently falling 85-72 to San Francisco at home on Saturday. The Cougars have struggled to find consistency, with their last five games featuring both an overtime road win and several double-digit losses.

Pacific (7-11, 2-5) has lost five consecutive games, including a 74-54 home defeat to Loyola Marymount last Saturday. The Tigers have been held under 62 points in four of those five losses during their current downturn.

The game features a compelling duel between two of the conference’s top scorers. Washington State will rely heavily on guard Eleonora Villa, who is averaging 19.4 points over her last eight games. Villa is coming off an 18-point, 4-assist performance against San Francisco and scored 29 points in a narrow loss to Santa Clara on Jan. 10.

For the Tigers, forward Winner Bartholomew has been a bright spot, averaging 19.3 points over her last three contests. She exploded for a career-high 28 points in the loss to Loyola Marymount, accounting for more than half of Pacific’s total offense.

The Cougars have shown offensive sparks, scoring 92 points in the loss to Santa Clara, but rank near the bottom of the WCC in scoring defense. Pacific’s offense has stagnated during its losing streak, failing to reach 65 points in any of the five games.

This is the first meeting between the programs this season. Pacific will look to leverage its home court, where it is 5-4 this season, while Washington State is 1-9 in true road games.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST Thursday. Pacific travels to face San Francisco on Saturday, while Washington State’s next game is at Santa Clara on Jan. 29.
