Houston at Kansas State
MANHATTAN, Kan. (Interstat) — The Kansas State Wildcats will look to complete a regular-season sweep and solidify their position in the Big 12 Conference standings when they host the Houston Cougars in a women’s basketball matchup Wednesday night at Bramlage Coliseum.
The Wildcats (10-9 overall) enter with momentum after a 65-59 road victory over Texas Tech last Saturday. That win evened their conference record and showcased a balanced attack, with guard Gina Garcia contributing 11 points and four assists. Garcia, a key facilitator, has averaged 5.0 assists over her last three games and will be central to Kansas State’s offensive flow.
Houston (6-12) arrives seeking to end a six-game losing streak, its most recent a 71-61 home loss to Utah. The Cougars’ struggles are compounded by their search for a first Big 12 win this season. They will lean heavily on forward TK Pitts, who has been a consistent bright spot. Pitts is coming off a 14-point performance against Utah and averaged 16.0 points in her last five outings, including a 16-point effort in the first meeting with Kansas State.
That Jan. 7 contest in Houston resulted in a 71-62 Wildcats victory. Kansas State used a strong defensive performance to pull away in the second half, holding the Cougars to 34.4% shooting from the field. Replicating that defensive intensity will be a focus for the home team.
For Houston, reversing recent history requires improved offensive efficiency beyond Pitts and limiting turnovers against a Kansas State team that forces nearly 15 per game. The Cougars have lost nine of their last ten.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST. The game continues a challenging stretch for both teams in the deep Big 12. Kansas State will visit in-state rival Kansas on Sunday, while Houston travels to face Baylor this weekend.
