Nevada at Grand Canyon
PHOENIX (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum in conference play will meet Wednesday when the Nevada women’s basketball team visits Grand Canyon at GCU Arena.
The Wolf Pack (7-9) enter on a three-game winning streak, their longest of the season, following a 70-61 road victory at New Mexico on Saturday. The Antelopes (4-12) snapped a two-game skid with a 71-64 home win over Fresno State the same day.
Nevada’s recent surge has been fueled by improved offensive execution, averaging 66.0 points during the win streak after being held under 50 in three of their previous four contests. Guard Ahrray Young has been pivotal, averaging 14.0 points and 4.0 assists over the last three games. She scored a season-high 20 points and dished 7 assists in the win at New Mexico.
Grand Canyon has struggled for consistency but showed promise in its last outing. Forward Anisa Jeffries provides a versatile threat for the Antelopes, coming off a 14-point performance against Fresno State. She recorded a triple-double with 13 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists in a win at Boise State on Jan. 3.
The matchup features teams with contrasting recent trajectories. Nevada has found a rhythm in January, while Grand Canyon looks to build on its most recent victory and secure consecutive wins for the first time this season. The Wolf Pack’s defense, which has held opponents to an average of 53.7 points during its streak, will be tested by a GCU squad that scored a season-high 87 points in its win at Boise State.
This is a non-conference game for both programs. Nevada’s next game is at home against Fresno State on Saturday. Grand Canyon travels to face New Mexico the same day.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST at Grand Canyon University Arena.
