Gardner-Webb at Radford

FAIRLAWN, Va. (Interstat) — The Radford Highlanders will look to get back to .500 in Big South Conference play when they host the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs in a women’s basketball matchup Wednesday night at the D.N. Dedmon Center.

Radford (9-9 overall) enters at 1-2 in the conference following a 78-40 road loss to High Point on Saturday. The Highlanders have shown resilience, including an overtime win at Hampton and a double-overtime victory against Navy earlier this season. A key to their success will be forward Georgia Simonsen, who has scored in double figures in four of her last five games. She posted a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds at Hampton on Dec. 18 and has averaged 13.6 points over that stretch.

Gardner-Webb (5-12) snapped a four-game skid with a 64-61 home win over South Carolina Upstate last Saturday. The Runnin’ Bulldogs are 1-2 in conference play. They will rely on guard Amira Ofunniyin, who scored 10 points and blocked two shots in the win over Upstate. Ofunniyin has been inconsistent offensively but is a defensive presence, recording at least one block in four of her last five contests.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs’ victory over Upstate was a rare bright spot in a challenging season that includes non-conference losses to Power Five programs Wake Forest and Virginia Tech. Radford also fell to Virginia Tech, 79-47, on Dec. 21.

Historically, Radford has dominated the series, winning the last 10 meetings. Their most recent matchup was a 67-49 Radford victory on Feb. 21, 2025.

Following this game, Radford travels to face Winthrop on Saturday, while Gardner-Webb visits Charleston Southern. Both teams are in the early stages of a rigorous Big South schedule that will see them play 18 conference games this season.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday in Fairlawn.
