SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Interstat) — Amourie Porter scored 25 points to lead Winthrop to a 66-64 victory over South Carolina Upstate in a women’s basketball game Wednesday night at the G.B. Hodge Center.

The Eagles improved to 9-8 overall. The Spartans fell to 5-12.

Winthrop led 35-34 at halftime and maintained a narrow advantage throughout the second half. South Carolina Upstate’s Cassie Gallagher scored 22 points and Kinley Paterson added 10 points and five assists in the losing effort. Madison Ruff contributed 12 points for Winthrop.

The Spartans had a chance to tie or win on their final possession, but the Winthrop defense secured the stop. Attendance was 195.
