San Diego at Pacific
STOCKTON, Calif. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum at the close of non-conference play will meet Tuesday when the Pacific Tigers host the San Diego Toreros in a women’s basketball matchup at the A.C. Spanos Center.
Both teams enter with 6-8 overall records, though they arrive on contrasting trajectories. Pacific is coming off an 85-66 home victory over Seattle on Sunday, powered by a balanced offensive effort. San Diego, meanwhile, looks to rebound from a 68-46 road loss at Santa Clara that same day.
The Tigers have shown potency at home, averaging 86.5 points in their last two games in Stockton. Guard Daria Nestorov has been a catalyst, averaging 15.0 points and 6.0 assists over her last five contests. She posted 19 points, five rebounds and four assists in the win over Seattle.
San Diego will counter with guard Hallie Rhodes, who has been a consistent performer for the Toreros. Over her last five games, Rhodes is averaging 12.6 points and 3.6 assists, including a 25-point outing in a loss to Binghamton on Dec. 3. Her playmaking and defense, evidenced by multiple blocks in recent games, will be key for a San Diego squad that has struggled offensively at times, scoring 46 points or fewer in three of its eight losses.
Historically, this West Coast Conference matchup has been closely contested. Both teams will view this final game of the calendar year as a critical opportunity to build confidence before the conference schedule intensifies in January.
For Pacific, maintaining its recent offensive rhythm will be the focus. For San Diego, the priority will be tightening its defense and finding more consistent scoring options beyond Rhodes to complement its star guard.
Tip-off is set for Tuesday evening. The game will be the final non-conference tune-up for both programs before WCC play resumes next week.
