South Carolina State at Charleston Southern
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (Interstat) — Two South Carolina women’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Saturday when the South Carolina State Bulldogs visit the Charleston Southern Buccaneers.
The Bulldogs (2-3) enter the contest looking to rebound from a 76-65 home loss to Queens (N.C.) on Thursday. Shaunice Reed led the way in that defeat, scoring 21 points. South Carolina State’s two wins this season came in dominant fashion against non-Division I opponents, Trinity Baptist and Morris, but they have dropped their three games against Division I competition.
Charleston Southern (0-4) is still in search of its first win. The Buccaneers are coming off a 40-87 road loss to Georgia Tech on Nov. 13, a game where Alaina Nettles and Asha Sra were the most productive players, combining for 14 rebounds and 8 assists. Their most competitive outing was an 84-86 overtime loss at Jacksonville to open the season.
The matchup at the CSU Field House pits South Carolina State’s offense, which has shown flashes of high scoring, against a Charleston Southern team that has struggled to put points on the board against major opponents. Both teams will view this in-state clash as a critical opportunity to build confidence and secure a victory before continuing their challenging non-conference schedules.
