NJIT at Fordham

NEW YORK (Interstat) — Two teams coming off season-opening victories will meet Friday night when the NJIT Highlanders visit the Fordham Rams in a non-conference women’s basketball matchup at Rose Hill Gym.

Both teams enter the contest with 1-0 records. NJIT opened its season with a 64-51 road win over Sacred Heart on Monday. The Highlanders were led by a dominant performance from guard Alejandra Zuniga, who poured in 24 points and dished out 7 assists. Marissa Gingrich added 13 points.

Fordham also started its campaign Monday, defeating Adelphi 60-51 at home. The Rams’ offense was powered by a balanced attack, with Alexis Black and Ugne Sirtautaite each scoring 14 points. Kaila Berry nearly notched a double-double, finishing with 9 points and 9 rebounds.

The game will be a test for both squads before they continue their respective stretches of non-conference play. NJIT will look to its backcourt of Zuniga and Gingrich to generate offense against a Fordham defense that held its first opponent to 51 points. The Rams will counter with their interior presence, led by Berry and Sirtautaite on the boards.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST on Friday, Nov. 7.
