Colgate at Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. (Interstat) — Two Patriot League women’s basketball teams seeking to halt slides will meet Wednesday when the Lafayette Leopards host the Colgate Raiders at Kirby Sports Center.

Lafayette (10-18 overall) has lost three of its last four, most recently a 61-42 defeat at Army on Saturday. Colgate (6-21) enters on an eight-game losing streak, including a 73-63 home loss to Navy that same day.

The matchup features two of the conference’s top offensive talents. Lafayette will lean on junior guard Teresa Kiewiet, who is averaging 19.3 points over her last six games. She scored a game-high 24 points in the loss to Army and poured in 26 points and eight rebounds in a win at American on Feb. 21.

Colgate counters with dynamic sophomore guard Ella Meabon, who has been a bright spot during the Raiders’ skid. She is coming off a 19-point performance against Navy and scored 25 points in an overtime loss to Boston University on Feb. 18. Meabon leads the team in scoring during conference play.

In the first meeting this season, Colgate edged Lafayette 63-57 in Hamilton, New York, on Dec. 31. Meabon scored 15 points in that victory, while Kiewiet was held to nine points for the Leopards.

Both teams have struggled offensively at times this season. Colgate has been held under 50 points six times during its current losing streak. Lafayette has shown more volatility, scoring 73 points in a win over Lehigh on Feb. 14 but managing 44 or fewer in three of its last five games.

Defense could dictate the tempo. Lafayette allows an average of 59.2 points per game in Patriot League play, while Colgate surrenders 65.8 per contest.

The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off. With the Patriot League tournament approaching, both teams are looking to build momentum and climb the standings in the final weeks of the regular season.
