Arkansas at Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. (Interstat) — The Oklahoma Sooners delivered a dominant wire-to-wire performance, overwhelming the Arkansas Razorbacks 89-44 in a nonconference women’s basketball game Thursday night at Lloyd Noble Center.

From the opening tip, the Sooners established a decisive advantage, showcasing a balanced offensive attack and stifling defense that the visiting Razorbacks could never counter. Oklahoma built a 23-12 lead after the first quarter, extended it to 44-22 by halftime, and continued to pull away in the second half before a crowd of 4,340.

The most pivotal stretch of the game came early, setting a tone of Sooner control that never wavered. After Arkansas’s Bonnie Deas hit a 3-pointer to cut Oklahoma’s early lead to 7-3, the Sooners responded with an immediate 11-0 run. The surge was fueled by defensive pressure and efficient scoring. It began with a layup from Raegan Beers, who was fouled on the play and completed the three-point opportunity. Following an Arkansas miss, Sahara Williams drew a foul and sank two free throws. On the ensuing possession, a Beers block led to a fast break where Aaliyah Chavez finished a layup off an assist from Payton Verhulst. After an Arkansas turnover, Zya Vann hit a pull-up jumper, and following another Razorbacks miss, Brooklyn Stewart scored inside to cap the run and give Oklahoma an 18-3 lead with just over four minutes left in the opening quarter. This sequence effectively buried Arkansas, which struggled to generate consistent offense against Oklahoma’s length and activity all night.

Oklahoma’s victory was a showcase of its depth, with six players scoring in double figures. Aaliyah Chavez led the way with 16 points, 4 assists and a steal in 30 minutes. Payton Verhulst filled the stat sheet with 14 points, 5 assists and a block. Zya Vann added 13 points, while Sahara Williams and Brooklyn Stewart each contributed 12. Stewart also recorded 3 blocks. Raegan Beers was a force inside, scoring 11 points, grabbing numerous rebounds, and blocking 3 shots in just 19 minutes of action.

Arkansas, which fell to 11-19 overall, never found an offensive rhythm. The Razorbacks were led by Jenna Lawrence with 6 points. Maryn Archer and Jada Bates each added 4 points. The loss extended Arkansas’s difficult season, marking its seventh defeat in the last eight games.

Oklahoma, a member of the Southeastern Conference, improved to 22-6. The Sooners have now won three of their last four contests. The game was part of the SEC’s scheduling alliance, pitting teams from the conference against one another in nonconference matchups.

The Sooners shot efficiently from the floor and capitalized on Arkansas mistakes, while the Razorbacks struggled with their shooting across the board. Oklahoma’s defensive pressure was constant, generating turnovers and converting them into easy transition opportunities throughout the evening.

According to pregame analytics from Interstat, Oklahoma was projected with a 98.90 percent probability to win. The Sooners covered the pregame spread of 28.5 points with ease. The total score of 133 points fell well under the over/under line of 163.5.

Arkansas returns to SEC play on Sunday when it hosts Auburn. Oklahoma continues its conference schedule on the road Sunday at Missouri.
