Wake Forest at Duke
DURHAM, N.C. (Interstat) — A surging Duke women’s basketball team will look to extend its winning streak when it hosts a struggling Wake Forest squad in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup Sunday at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The Blue Devils (15-6, 7-1 ACC) have won seven consecutive games, most recently a 74-58 road victory at Miami on Thursday. Point guard Taina Mair has been instrumental, averaging 11.7 points and 5.7 assists during the streak. She scored 18 points with five assists against the Hurricanes.
In contrast, the Demon Deacons (12-10, 1-7) are mired in a seven-game losing skid. Their last outing was a heartbreaking 109-103 triple-overtime loss to Virginia on Thursday. Guard Milan Brown poured in a career-high 30 points in 49 minutes in that defeat, highlighting her role as Wake Forest’s primary offensive threat. Brown is averaging 12.6 points per game over her last five contests.
The teams are trending in opposite directions within the conference. Duke’s defense has been stifling during its run, holding four of its last seven opponents under 60 points. Wake Forest, meanwhile, has struggled to find consistent stops, allowing an average of 78.4 points per game during its losing streak.
History also favors the Blue Devils at home, where they are 9-1 this season. The Demon Deacons are 2-5 in true road games.
For Wake Forest to snap its streak, it will need another high-output performance from Brown and must find a way to slow Mair and Duke’s balanced attack, which features four players averaging double-figure scoring in ACC play. The Blue Devils will aim to leverage their defensive intensity and home-court advantage to maintain momentum in the conference race.
The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. EST tip-off.
