Notre Dame at California

BERKELEY, Calif. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to steady their postseason resumes will meet Thursday when the Notre Dame women’s basketball team visits California in a nonconference clash at Haas Pavilion.

The game, organized by the Atlantic Coast Conference, pits the Fighting Irish (13-7) against the Golden Bears (12-9) in a late-January test for both squads.

Notre Dame arrives seeking to halt a two-game skid, most recently a 65-58 home loss to Clemson on Sunday. The Irish have leaned heavily on star guard Hannah Hidalgo, who scored 30 points in that defeat. Over her last eight games, Hidalgo is averaging 24.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 6.4 assists, playing nearly 39 minutes per contest. Her scoring prowess will be central to Notre Dame’s hopes as it begins a challenging West Coast trip.

California enters with momentum after a signature 78-71 overtime victory over rival Stanford on Sunday. The Bears were propelled by guard Lulu Twidale, who logged 43 minutes and scored 24 points. Twidale has been a volume scorer and playmaker, including a 36-point, 9-assist performance in a win at Boston College on Jan. 18. Her backcourt duel with Hidalgo will be a primary focus.

The Irish have faced a demanding schedule, with four of their seven losses coming against currently ranked opponents, including Connecticut. Their offense, however, has stalled recently, failing to reach 70 points in three straight games.

The Bears have shown resilience, battling Syracuse to triple-overtime earlier this month before securing the win over Stanford. Consistency has been an issue, but their home victory against a ranked opponent provides a confidence boost.

Thursday’s matchup offers a critical opportunity for each team to enhance its NCAA tournament profile before returning to conference play. For Notre Dame, it’s a chance to rebound on the road. For California, it’s an opportunity to build a winning streak and prove the Stanford win was no fluke.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. PST at Haas Pavilion.
