Texas State at Coastal Carolina
CONWAY, S.C. (Interstat) — Two Sun Belt women’s basketball teams looking to climb above .500 in conference play will meet Wednesday when Coastal Carolina hosts Texas State at the HTC Center.
The Chanticleers (10-11) enter on the heels of their most dominant performance of the season, an 81-55 road rout of Southern Mississippi on Saturday. Forward Tracey Hueston powered the win with 24 points, six rebounds and three blocks in just 25 minutes. Hueston has been a consistent offensive force, scoring in double figures in six of her last seven games, including a 24-point, 10-rebound double-double at Marshall on Jan. 10.
The visiting Bobcats (9-10) have won two straight, including a 65-61 victory over Old Dominion last Saturday. They are led by standout guard Kyra Anderson, who posted an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double in that win. Anderson has been prolific lately, averaging 17.1 points over her last seven contests and recording two double-doubles in that span.
Both teams have shown recent volatility. Texas State’s two-game winning streak followed a three-game skid, while Coastal Carolina’s 26-point win at Southern Miss came after a narrow road loss to Louisiana-Lafayette.
Defensively, the Bobcats have found a rhythm, holding their last two opponents under 62 points. They will be tested by a Coastal Carolina offense that shot efficiently in its last outing. The Chanticleers’ supporting cast stepped up Saturday, with Kristin Williams adding 18 points and seven assists and Kinsea Grimes contributing 15 points and eight rebounds.
With nearly identical overall records, the game is a crucial mid-conference matchup for positioning in the Sun Belt standings. Texas State will continue its road trip at Georgia State on Saturday, while Coastal Carolina will host Troy the same day.
