Wofford at Samford

Preview: Wofford Terriers at Samford Bulldogs

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Interstat) — Two Southern Conference women’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Thursday when the Wofford Terriers visit the Samford Bulldogs at Pete Hanna Center.

Wofford (9-9) enters on a three-game winning streak, most recently edging UNC Greensboro 61-59 on Saturday. Samford (8-12) looks to rebound from a 76-67 road loss to Mercer the same day.

The matchup features two of the conference’s top guards in Wofford’s Gabby Mundy and Samford’s Sierra Godbolt. Mundy is coming off a stellar 40-minute performance against UNCG, scoring 22 points with six rebounds and five assists. Over her last three games, the guard is averaging 19.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists.

Godbolt leads the Bulldogs’ attack, coming off a 19-point, seven-assist effort at Mercer. She has averaged 16.0 points over her last two conference contests.

Wofford’s recent surge has been keyed by defense, holding opponents to 61 points or fewer in all three wins during the streak. Alongside Mundy, forward Queen Ikhiuwu provides an interior presence, posting a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) in the win over UNCG.

Samford has struggled for consistency, alternating wins and losses in its last five games. The Bulldogs will need a collective effort to counter Wofford’s backcourt, with Emily Bowman (10 points, five blocks vs. Mercer) anchoring the defense.

The Terriers won both meetings last season. Thursday’s contest is the first of a regular-season series, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 21 in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST.
