Siena at Marist

Saints, Red Foxes Seek Momentum in MAAC Clash

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to halt slides will meet Thursday when the Siena Saints visit the Marist Red Foxes in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women’s basketball game at McCann Recreation Center.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Both sides enter on losing streaks. Siena (7-11, 3-6 MAAC) has dropped three straight, including an 86-50 road loss to Fairfield on Monday. Marist (6-13, 3-6) has lost three in a row, most recently a narrow 56-54 defeat at Sacred Heart on Monday.

The matchup features a pair of key forwards. Siena’s Valencia Fontenelle-Posson has been a consistent presence, averaging 7.8 points and 6.7 rebounds over her last six games. She posted nine points and eight rebounds in the loss to Fairfield.

For Marist, Lexie Tarul provides offensive punch. She scored 22 points in a win over Rider on Jan. 10 and is averaging 12.0 points over her last seven contests. Tarul logged 36 minutes with 12 points and five rebounds in the narrow loss to Sacred Heart.

Siena’s recent struggles follow a stretch where they won four of five games in late December. Guard Francesca Schiro leads the Saints’ scoring effort, coming off a 17-point performance against Fairfield.

Marist has found wins hard to come by but has been competitive, with five of its last seven losses decided by 10 points or fewer, including two in overtime. Justine Henry (10 points vs. Sacred Heart) and Ciara Croker provide support for Tarul.

The Saints won the first meeting this season, 73-56, at home on Dec. 21. They will look to complete the regular-season sweep.

Following this game, Marist travels to face Iona on Saturday. Siena’s next contest is at home against Niagara on Jan. 29.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
