Minnesota at Oregon

Preview: Minnesota at Oregon in Key Big 10 Women’s Basketball Clash

EUGENE, Ore. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to steady themselves in the Big 10 conference race will meet Wednesday when the Minnesota Golden Gophers visit the Oregon Ducks at Matthew Knight Arena.

Minnesota (12-6) arrives after a 54-67 loss at Washington on Sunday, its second consecutive defeat. The Golden Gophers have shown resilience, however, with close victories like a 63-62 win over Southern California on Jan. 11 highlighting their potential.

They will lean on guard Mara Braun, who scored 18 points in the loss to Washington and has been a consistent offensive force. Over her last seven games, Braun is averaging 12.4 points, though her production has fluctuated.

Oregon (14-6) is also seeking to halt a skid, having lost three of its last four, including a heartbreaking 92-94 double-overtime defeat at Wisconsin on Sunday. In that game, guard Mia Jacobs erupted for a season-high 30 points in 42 minutes, showcasing the high-scoring ability that makes her a focal point for the Ducks’ offense. Jacobs averages 16.2 points over her last six contests.

The matchup features contrasting recent trajectories within conference play. Minnesota has split its last six games, while Oregon’s recent losses have come against top-tier competition, including Iowa and Michigan State, by narrow margins.

Wednesday’s game represents a critical opportunity for both squads to build momentum ahead of demanding conference schedules. For Minnesota, a road win against a team with a strong record would provide a significant boost. For Oregon, protecting its home court is essential to remain in the upper tier of the Big 10 standings.

The Ducks hold the overall edge in record and home-court advantage at Matthew Knight Arena, where they are 9-2 this season. The Golden Gophers, however, have proven capable of winning on the road, including a dominant 71-48 victory at Indiana last month.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. PST Wednesday. The game will be broadcast on the Big 10 Network.
