Marquette Edges Saint John’s in Defensive Big East Clash
NEW YORK (Interstat) — Olivia Porter made the decisive free throw with 22 seconds remaining Wednesday night as Marquette held off Saint John’s 56-55 in a women’s basketball game at Carnesecca Arena.
The Golden Eagles, who avenged a loss to the Red Storm from December, sealed the win with a final defensive stop after Porter’s shot. Brooke Moore led Saint John’s with 16 points. Lee Volker scored 11 for Marquette, which improved to 12-7. Saint John’s fell to 15-6.
Both teams struggled offensively, shooting under 40% from the floor. Marquette capitalized on turnovers, scoring 20 points off 14 Saint John’s miscues. The Red Storm blocked eight shots but were outscored 17-15 in the fourth quarter.
