Georgetown at Marquette
Preview: Georgetown Hoyas at Marquette Golden Eagles
MILWAUKEE (Interstat) — Two Big East women’s basketball teams on the NCAA tournament bubble will look to solidify their resumes when the Georgetown Hoyas visit the Marquette Golden Eagles on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, at the Bradley Center.
Georgetown (10-7, 3-3 Big East) arrives after a dominant 59-34 home victory over Saint John’s on Tuesday, which snapped a two-game skid. The Hoyas have been inconsistent in conference play, mixing strong defensive performances with offensive struggles, most notably in a 36-81 loss at Seton Hall on Dec. 31.
Marquette (11-6, 4-2) looks to rebound from a narrow 61-64 road loss at Seton Hall on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles had won three straight prior to that defeat and have been strong at home this season, boasting an 8-1 record in Milwaukee.
The matchup features two of the conference’s top guards. Georgetown’s success hinges on junior Laila Jewett, who is averaging 12.6 points and 3.0 assists in conference games. She is coming off a 13-point, 3-assist effort against Saint John’s and scored 17 in a close loss at DePaul last weekend.
Marquette counters with senior Lee Volker, a versatile scoring threat. Volker poured in 20 points in the loss to Seton Hall and is averaging 13.2 points in Big East play. Her season highlight was an 18-point, 9-rebound performance in a win at Xavier on New Year’s Day.
Georgetown’s defense, which held Saint John’s to 34 points, will be tested by a Marquette offense averaging 72.6 points per game at home. The Hoyas will need another significant contribution from Destiny Agubata, who scored 15 points off the bench Tuesday.
Historically, this series has been tight, adding stakes to this mid-January clash. Both teams are jockeying for position in a competitive Big East, making this a pivotal game for their postseason aspirations. The winner will gain a valuable conference win and momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST.
