Loyola Maryland at Colgate
Preview: Loyola Maryland Greyhounds at Colgate Raiders
HAMILTON, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two Patriot League women’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds visit the Colgate Raiders at Cotterell Court.
Both sides enter the midweek contest with struggling overall records. Loyola Maryland sits at 6-9, while Colgate is 5-10. The game offers a chance for either to climb toward .500 in league play.
The Greyhounds are coming off a narrow 49-46 home victory over Bucknell on Saturday. They have relied heavily on the consistent production of junior forward Lex Therien. She is averaging 17.2 points over her last five games, including a 22-point performance in the win over Bucknell. Therien has scored 18 or more points in four of those five contests.
Colgate looks to snap a three-game skid, most recently a 64-45 loss at Lehigh. The Raiders have struggled offensively during the losing streak, failing to score more than 56 points. Senior guard Madison Schiller is a key facilitator, logging heavy minutes. She posted a well-rounded line of 10 points, eight rebounds and six assists in Colgate’s last victory, a 63-57 win over Lafayette on Dec. 31.
Historically, this matchup has been closely contested. The teams will meet again in Baltimore on Feb. 22.
For Loyola Maryland, support for Therien will be crucial. Guards Amandine Amorich and Whitley Watkins provided key contributions in the Bucknell win. Colgate will need more scoring punch alongside Schiller, potentially from Tatiana Matthews, who had nine points off the bench against Lehigh.
Wednesday’s winner will gain a valuable conference result as both programs aim to climb the Patriot League standings in the second half of the season.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
