Western Illinois at Eastern Illinois

CHARLESTON, Ill. (Interstat) — A surging Western Illinois women’s basketball team will look to extend its winning streak when it visits struggling Eastern Illinois in an Ohio Valley Conference matchup Tuesday night at Lantz Arena.

The Western Illinois Leathernecks (13-2, 4-1 OVC) have won five of their last six games, including a 77-60 victory over Tennessee Tech on Saturday. They are led by standout guard Mia Nicastro, who is averaging 23.5 points over her last six contests. She scored 25 points with five rebounds in the win over Tennessee Tech.

The Eastern Illinois Panthers (3-14, 2-3) snapped a five-game skid with a 71-45 win over Tennessee State on Saturday. Guard Tiny Lewis paced the Panthers with 20 points in that victory, her second straight game in double figures after a 12-point performance in a narrow 75-74 win over Tennessee Tech on Jan. 8.

Despite their recent conference wins, the Panthers face a steep challenge against a Leathernecks squad that has dominated most opponents this season. Western Illinois’ only losses came in double-overtime at Tennessee-Martin and on the road against Iowa, a Power Five program.

The teams will meet again in Macomb on Feb. 10. For now, Eastern Illinois will aim to leverage its home court to slow Nicastro and a potent Western Illinois offense that has scored 75 or more points in eight games this season.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST Tuesday.
