Army Women Dominate Colgate in Patriot League Opener

HAMILTON, N.Y. (Interstat) — The Army women’s basketball team delivered a commanding defensive performance, holding Colgate to a season-low scoring output in a decisive 81-49 victory in a Patriot League matchup Saturday at Cotterell Court.

The Black Knights (10-3, 1-1 Patriot) seized control from the opening tip and never relented, limiting the Raiders to just 15 points in the entire first half. Army’s smothering defense set the tone, forcing Colgate into difficult shots and 14 turnovers, which the visitors converted into 17 points. Offensively, Army was efficient, shooting 51.7 percent from the field and dominating inside with 50 points in the paint.

The most important stretch of the game came immediately after tipoff, as Army established an insurmountable lead before Colgate could find any offensive rhythm. The Black Knights opened the game on a 12-2 run, fueled by early layups from Kya Smith and Taylor Wilson. Colgate’s offense, which entered the contest averaging over 60 points per game, was completely stifled. The Raiders managed only 10 points in the first quarter and a mere five in the second, shooting a combined 6-for-30 from the field in the half. By the time the teams headed to the locker rooms, Army led 42-15, and the outcome was effectively decided.

Army’s balanced attack featured seven players with eight or more points. Taylor Wilson, a forward from Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, led all scorers with 17 points in just 24 minutes, adding two assists and a block. Guards Reese Ericson and Camryn Tade added 10 and 12 points, respectively, while forward Reganne Reardon contributed 11 points off the bench. The Black Knights’ ball movement and interior presence were overwhelming, as evidenced by their 114.9 offensive rating on 70 possessions.

Colgate (5-8, 1-1) struggled to find consistent offense outside of guard Ella Meabon, who finished with 10 points and four assists. The Raiders shot just 32.2 percent for the game and posted an offensive rating of 72.2. A late push in the fourth quarter, where they scored 20 points, did little to close the vast gap created by the first-half drought. Amarah Streiff and Laila Hankerson each scored nine points for the home team.

The victory marked a strong rebound for Army, which dropped its Patriot League opener to Lehigh earlier in the week. The Black Knights improved to 10-3 overall, continuing a promising start to the season. Colgate saw its two-game win streak snapped and fell below .500.

Army next travels to face Loyola Maryland on Wednesday. Colgate will hit the road for a game at American the same day.

The game was played before an announced crowd of 168.
