Harvard Upsets Arkansas Behind Strong Start in Women’s Basketball

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Interstat) — In a commanding road performance, the Harvard Crimson women’s basketball team secured a decisive victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks, 69-51, on Sunday afternoon at Bud Walton Arena.

The Crimson set the tone early, exploding for 23 points in the first quarter while holding the Razorbacks to just 12. Harvard’s offensive onslaught continued in the second period, where they added 21 points to build a commanding 44-26 halftime lead. The early dominance proved insurmountable for the home team.

Arkansas mounted its most significant challenge in the third quarter, outscoring Harvard 17-10 to trim the deficit. However, the Crimson defense stiffened in the final frame, limiting the Razorbacks to a mere eight points while putting 15 on the board themselves to seal the win.

Harvard’s offense was a balanced and efficient machine. The team capitalized on Arkansas mistakes, scoring 17 points off turnovers. Inside, the Crimson managed 20 points in the paint, nearly matching Arkansas’s total of 22, but did their primary damage from the perimeter with a sharp-shooting display.

The Crimson were led by a trio of double-digit scorers. Forward Katie Krupa of Morton, Illinois, was the engine for Harvard, stuffing the stat sheet with 15 points, six assists and a block in 33 minutes of action. She was instrumental in facilitating the offense from the high post.

Joining her with 15 points was guard Alayna Rocco of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, who provided a critical spark off the bench with her three-point shooting. Guard Aubrey Shaw of Overland Park, Kansas, also made significant contributions off the pine, adding 11 points and three assists.

Rounding out the key contributors for Harvard was guard Saniyah Glenn of Staten Island, New York, who played a team-high 34 minutes and chipped in 10 points and three assists. Forward Abigail Wright of Newton, Massachusetts, was a force on the glass, pulling down nine points to go with several key offensive rebounds.

For Arkansas, the offense ran almost exclusively through guard Taleyah Jones of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Jones logged 40 minutes and delivered a game-high 19 points, but received little consistent support from her teammates. Guard Harmonie Ware of Cleveland, Tennessee, provided a brief spark off the bench with seven points.

The victory improves Harvard’s season record to 4-5, providing a significant momentum boost after a narrow two-point loss to South Florida earlier in the week. The loss drops Arkansas to 7-2 on the season, snapping a two-game winning streak.

The game was played in front of a crowd of 2,310 at the Razorbacks’ home arena.

Harvard returns to action on Wednesday to host Holy Cross, looking to build on this road victory. Arkansas will hit the road for its next contest, facing SMU on Thursday.
