Louisville Routs Bellarmine in Dominant Home Victory
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Interstat) — The Louisville women’s basketball team delivered a commanding performance Sunday at the KFC Yum! Center, overwhelming the visiting Bellarmine Knights in a lopsided nonconference victory.
From the opening tip, the Cardinals established a pace and efficiency that the Knights could not match. Louisville’s offense operated with precision, scoring 100 points on 76 possessions for an offensive rating of 131.4. In stark contrast, Bellarmine managed just 37 points on 74 possessions, resulting in an offensive rating of 50.2, one of the lowest marks conceivable at the Division I level.
The disparity in shooting was the story of the game. Louisville connected on 38 of 74 shots from the floor, a 51 percent clip, and hit 13 three-pointers. Bellarmine’s offensive struggles were profound, as the Knights shot a frigid 13 for 63 from the field, a rate of just under 21 percent, and made only 4 of 27 attempts from beyond the arc.
Louisville’s defense was equally dominant, forcing 16 Bellarmine turnovers while committing only 12 of their own. The Cardinals also controlled the glass, securing 17 offensive rebounds to Bellarmine’s 10, which led to a steady stream of second-chance opportunities.
The Cardinals’ scoring was balanced and deep. Imari Berry, a guard from Clarksville, Tennessee, led the way with 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and a block in just 16 minutes of action. Reyna Scott of New York contributed 13 points, four rebounds and four assists. The frontcourt was anchored by Anaya Hardy of Detroit, who pulled down 10 rebounds to go with six points and two blocks.
Other key contributors for Louisville included Mackenly Randolph of Los Angeles with nine points and eight rebounds, Skylar Jones of Chicago with nine points, four rebounds and a block, and Yevheniia Putra of Kyiv, Ukraine, who tallied eight points, four rebounds and three assists. Rebekah Graves of Keller, Texas, provided a spark off the bench with 10 points.
For Bellarmine, Rachel Shropshire of Frankfort, Kentucky, was the lone Knight to reach double figures, finishing with 10 points and three rebounds in 30 minutes.
The game was never in doubt, with Louisville building a 30-point lead by halftime and continuing to extend its advantage throughout the second half. The victory improved Louisville’s record to 7-2 on the season, while Bellarmine fell to 2-7.
The Cardinals are scheduled to host South Carolina on Thursday in a marquee early-season matchup. Bellarmine will look to rebound on the road Tuesday at Illinois.
